CLASSP Program

Ages 16-24

The Consortia for Learning and Service to Special Populations (CLASSP) was created in response to the growing interests of the special needs community. CLASSP is a collaborative project of nine New York community based organizations. CLASSP has helped over 175 high school students transform the lives of hundreds of children with disabilities and receive valuable job experience.

Internship Description

CLASSP is a year-long internship designed to provide select high school and college students new skills and approaches of working with special needs children who have Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Upon completion of the program, high school students receive 1 college credit and a stipend and college students receive between 3 and 6 elective credits and a stipend. Students who are interested in working with ASD children are eligible for future employment opportunities.

Applying their new skills and individual talents, students help our special needs children develop their strengths through creative play, dance, arts & crafts, yoga, story time and more.
